A new solution to the data storage and recovery problem?

http://kocour.ms.mff.cuni.cz/~petricek/papers/eternity/

From the website...

The risk of data loss is inherent problem of the whole data processing and, in fact, can not be completely avoided anyway. Besides of appropriate policy, the only solution is a backup of critical data objects. Reasonable backup can minimize the risk to acceptable degree. The main problem with backup is that the backup copies itself could be damaged, or inaccessible at least, in time they are needed.

We want now to introduce a new way to create, store and handle copies of data of high importance - The Eternity service - with very high reliability degree [And]. The Eternity service is resistant not only against classical threats such as natural disasters and vandals, but against political or court decisions, religious leader orders, activity of secret services and so on too.

Yes, this is a competing service to FreeNet. See also Google:EternityService
