1.1. Launch Definition

The current definition on the [home page] says:

''Designed for humans first and machines second, microformats are a set of simple,
open data formats built upon existing and widely adopted standards.''
by Dan Cederholm with help from Tantek Çelik for the launch of [microformats.org] on June 20th, 2005.

MicroFormats are a set of open data formats used to mark up XHTML content to provide a bit of semantic meaning. Proponents often categorize Microformats as part of the "lowercase" semantic web, to distinguish it from the lofty (and by some accounts unnattainable) goal of the "SemanticWeb."

1.4. Discussion

Initiated in five minutes through Chris Messina during a previous BarCamp? in Paris, I'm currently trying to understand the microformat's way and the way we could use them in wikis. This page is a stub and opened primarily to have any opinion from the mb community about uses of microformats in future wiki-engines. A first discussion has been opened on the wiki-spec. May be it could be interesting if any mb's expert could check it and complete it : http://microformats.org/wiki/wiki-formats. Currently feeling really newbie and shy to write any words on this previous page :-)

Also discovered rapidly that some wikis currently embed some MicroFormats (BarcampWiki?, WikiTravel, OpenGuides, ... this list will be completed and described). Let's say for the moment, ... I'm really newbie on this topic, enthusiast on the idea and would be happy to exchange any experience on a few questions :

Finally, a last point of view on the social dynamics if you visit the official wiki. The wiki has imho (as I'm not a programmer) a very [strong wiki-process] to define some specs. ThreadMode don't seem welcome (even if they currently use MediaWiki engine with the discusion tab). The wiki is focused on DocumentMode with strong reworking. Discussions are held essentially on a traditional mailing-list and on irc.

Any reaction would be welcomed. Thanks in advance.
