Perhaps one of the simplest forms of InformationVisualization - certainly the most literal version of cybercartography - is simply placing pins on a (real-world) map to refer to information or pages about, or involving, that location. Examples:

* The "guest map", where visitors stick pins in maps instead of signing a guest-book. [http://www.bravenet.com/webtools/guestmap/index.php]

* A visualisation tool showing the registered users of a site could display them on a world map. Other information can also be coded in, for instance by slowly fading out the pins of people long-inactive, or drawing lines connecting them to "friend" pins when moused-over.
