ProjectOpen

]project-open[ (http://www.project-open.com/ http://www.project-open.org/product/modules/ is a mix between an ERP, a ProjectManagement system and an OnlineCommunity. It is based on the idea of OnlineCollaboration and extends this idea to organizing a company.

  • All projects, customers and user files are implemented as small online communities where users with access can collaborate towards a common goal such as completing the project, acquiring a customer or evaluating a users's performance
  • There is an integration with a Wiki engine. All objects (project, customers, users, ...) are mapped to Wiki pages, so that it becomes natural to share information.
  • There is a very strong permission system working. This is necessary for collaboration in order to allow freelancers and customer to access part(!) of the system and collaborate with the staff.

]project-open[ contains integrated accounting and project management apart from the community, converting it into a kind of ERP (EnterpriseResourcePlanning) system for project-based organizations.

Does this functionality qualify ]project-open[ as an OnlineCommunity? Any proposals to improve it? Please let me know what you think and mail a quick feedback to mailto:frank_dot_bergmann@project_dash_open.com

Project Management tools are extremely useful in organizing the tasks that are part of any significantly large undertaking. They are especially useful in coordinating the activities of a number of individual contributors to an Enterprise. It would be very interesting to explore the ways that such tools could be used within a wiki community to assist that community (and its individual members)in meeting Goals. On the basis of what I know at this time, I think this could produce quite a few unique insights that would be extremely useful. To that end, I am at least prepared to start investigating this software, if someone else cares to also participate. -- HansWobbe

No, but it sounds like a set of tools that could be used by an online community. It's the people that are the online community, not the tools they use. -- StephenGilbert
