If a site such as a wiki is used as the platform of a community, it might make sense to put "news" on a collective community blog. All members of the community can blog there. Some communities have
only a blog such as
KuroShin or
SlashDot, while others have used an additional blog to promote the community aspect:
- Have a dedicated place to put news
- Automatically show the latest pieces of news on a journal page using TransClusion -- possibly the front page of the site
- Old news automatically drops off the journal page but remains accessible via search and archives
- Channels thread mode contributions
- Encourages personal information like an OnlineDiary but focused on the community, not on the private lives of community members
The EmacsWiki has a [news page] to do this, and uses two extra links in the goto-bar to give people access to the DatePages for "today" and "yesterday".
