CoWeb

The CoWeb is a part of early wiki history (see also SqueakWiki or SwikiClone) created by Mark Guzdial at Georgia Tech around 1998. It was used for a large numbers of computer related courses and quite a number of scientific papers were produced.

I think that the CoWeb violated a number of rules and principles. They heavily used HTML for multimedia content which was against "wiki for everybody" and "content over form". Using it almost exclusively for courses they completely missed the point of "online community". And Mark Guzdial hardly ever mentions the origin of his work ("wiki" or "Cunningham") although he drew from standard wiki technology. -- HelmutLeitner
