Now that [ICANN] has taken over DNS and decentralized control, NetworkSolutions has the policy of acquiring expired domains. That is, if your domain registration expires, and it was registered with NetworkSolutions, they will put it up for auction for you. If it sells, you receive a portion of the sale price. If it doesn't then it goes becomes available for anyone.
