As opposed to ThickClient, although ThinClient is the more popular term. The idea is that the ThinClient is little more than an interface to the server. The idea works institutionally, but breaks down when put into a consumer environment when the consumer realizes that the consumer's data is under someone else's control. This idea has been cast, but so far few have bitten.
