MicroSoft has been accused of keeping competition off various technologies by saying "We have that in the works" and allowing the other companies to run in fear from direct competition with BillGates?. (e.g. Money was originally vapor, announced long before it was realistic competition for Quicken, but it still cut into Quicken sales because it had the MS name)
The same goes for whatever new memory/disk/processor technology someone is announcing. ArtificialIntelligence is another fertile ground for VaporWare.
